NTT DATA Picks SAP SuccessFactors and Joule for Global HR Overhaul
NTT DATA has chosen SAP SuccessFactors and Joule as the foundation for a company-wide people and culture transformation, positioning itself as one of SAP's highest-profile reference customers for AI-driven HR.

The development
SAP announced on 12 August 2026 that NTT DATA, the global IT services firm, has selected SAP SuccessFactors as its HR platform of record alongside Joule, SAP's AI copilot, to consolidate and modernise people operations across its global workforce.
The partnership centres on using SAP SuccessFactors to unify HR processes — spanning talent management, workforce planning, and employee experience — that were previously fragmented across NTT DATA's international operating companies.
Joule is positioned in the deal to automate and surface HR insights at scale, supporting what SAP describes as an AI-driven approach to people transformation. NTT DATA is presented as a strategic reference customer, signalling SAP's intent to use this deployment to validate its agentic HR stack in a large, complex enterprise environment.
What it actually means
- Reference customer value is mutual. NTT DATA gains SAP's full implementation support and early access to the SuccessFactors/Joule roadmap. SAP gains a credible, named proof point for selling agentic HR to other global systems integrators and professional-services firms — a demographic with complex multi-entity HR structures.
- The consolidation play is the real story. The announcement is as much about replacing fragmented HR systems with a single platform as it is about AI. Joule is layered on top; the foundational work is data and process unification, which is a prerequisite most large enterprises are still working through.
- Agentic HR features assume data quality SAP rarely confirms is in place. Joule's ability to deliver meaningful people insights depends on consistent, governed employee data across all NTT DATA entities. The announcement does not address how NTT DATA is handling data harmonisation across its many operating companies — the step that typically takes the longest and costs the most.
- "AI-driven" framing should be read carefully. At this stage, Joule in SuccessFactors primarily provides conversational access to HR workflows and guided recommendations. Full autonomous agentic actions — where Joule executes multi-step HR processes without human approval — remain limited in general availability. Customers should confirm exactly which Joule capabilities are live versus on the roadmap.
What to watch for
Watch for NTT DATA to publish measurable outcomes — headcount productivity, time-to-hire, or HR cost ratios — within 12-18 months; absence of such data would suggest the deployment is still in consolidation rather than the AI value-capture phase. Also track whether SAP uses this reference to accelerate SuccessFactors deals at other large IT services firms.
