- Fragmented, duplicated, or unowned data doesn't make an agent fail loudly — it reasons over incomplete or contradictory information and produces plausible-looking wrong answers.
- What "partially integrated" looks like in practice:
- Customer records duplicated in S/4HANA and a CRM with no reconciliation process
- Vendor master data table with three departments holding write access, no final owner
- ECC-to-S/4HANA migration data with no audit trail of what changed
Four questions to answer before committing budget to an agent pilot:
- Does the data live in one system of record, or scattered across systems that don't reconcile automatically?
- Is there a named owner with correction authority, or a committee?
- Is lineage auditable back to source, or does it just "come from the warehouse"?
- Is it integrated across SAP and non-SAP systems, or does agent context stop at the SAP landscape's edge?
What to watch for
An agent pilot that stalls on a wrong answer tracing back to unowned or unreconciled data is a data problem, not a model-tuning problem.
