What Is RISE with SAP? Definition and Joule Entitlement Explained
RISE with SAP is SAP's private cloud subscription bundling S/4HANA infrastructure and licensing. Here's how it works and what it means for Joule access.
RISE with SAP
RISE with SAP is SAP's private cloud subscription that bundles S/4HANA Cloud infrastructure, licenses, migration tools, and cloud operations into one contract managed by SAP. It's also the deployment model under which most enterprise customers currently receive their Joule AI entitlement, contractually set at roughly 2,500 messages per Full User Equivalent (FUE) per year.
RISE customers carry a contractual commitment to activate at least three Joule Assistants in Year 1, which sounds like a clear number until you read the actual Order Form. Many RISE Order Forms describe Joule access only as "available in relevant cloud subscriptions," with no numeric AI-unit allocation spelled out. Confirming what you actually receive means checking the specific Order Form and Bill of Materials (BoM), a step most customers haven't taken.
RISE is a single-tenant, SAP-managed model, which is why it's positioned as the deployment path for larger, more complex estates migrating off ECC. GROW with SAP, its public cloud counterpart, uses a different licensing and AI entitlement structure entirely, so the two aren't interchangeable when it comes to what Joule access actually looks like.
